A major share of future emissions will come from emerging economies – their process of urbanization and economic growth will depend critically on sustainable technologies if the 1.5° or 2°C target is to be met. This panel brings together high-level industry representatives from South Africa, Egypt, and Nigeria representing hard-to-abate sectors, such as the cement, steel, and fertilizer industry.

Ibrahim Kolawole Muritala is a registered engineer with over a decade of work experience and research experience in higher education institutions, research sector, energy, oil and gas industry. Ibrahim currently works with the German Aerospace Center as a researcher and project leader. He manages international research and technological development projects at the Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes – Cottbus / Zittau, where he supports the development of decarbonization technological interventions for energy-intensive processes in crucial industries like petroleum refining, chemical, petrochemicals and cement, steel production. His expertise cuts across hydrogen economy, power-to-x concepts and process chains development via computational modeling for energy systems and industrial processes.

Ayman Fathy | Product Developement & Quality Control Executive Manager | EZZ Steel
Ayman Mohamed Fathy received his B.Sc. (1989), M.Sc. (1994) and Ph.D. (2000) from Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt. He currently serves as product development and quality control executive manager for EZZ Flat Steel, Egypt a position he has held since 2008. Prior to this he served as a professor and researcher in the field of material science and steel metallurgy in Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute, Cairo, Egypt. He has participated in 24 industrial, national, and international research projects, and has published 65 articles in international journals, conferences, and workshops. He has awarded the DAAD Awards three times. His research and recent publications dealing with process optimization for energy saving in the field of new steel alloy and steel technology. He has managed and introduced the programs of energy management and Energy optimization in EZZ Flat Steel Co. with the cooperation of UNIDO projects in last 5 years.
Hazem Moshir | Energy Manager | Arabian Cement Company
Engineer/Hazem Moshir is the Energy Manager at Arabian Cement Company (ACC). With more than 9 years of experience in the cement sector and energy, Moshir is a Pan Arab Certified Energy Management Professional (CEMP). As an Energy Manager, he is identifying the significant energy uses through the whole plant, monitors daily specific energy consumption for all departments, and sets an optimization / improvement plan for needed areas. Moreover, he designs energy programs policies that enhance overall efficiency and reduce energy-related costs at ACC. He also benchmarks energy consumption against best practice guidelines, plans for new projects to enhance the company energy profile and introduces new industrial techniques for more energy saving. He also applied EMS (Energy Management System) with accordance to ISO 50001. Moshir joined ACC in 2013 as a Process and Production Shift Leader before taking the role of Senior Alternative Fuels and Energy Engineer, and then moving into his current role.
Daniel Adedokun | Head of Geocycle | Lafarge Africa Plc.
Daniel ADEDOKUN is the Head of Geocycle for Lafarge Africa Plc., where he is pioneering the innovation and technology of waste pre-processing and co-processing projects in the Nigerian cement industry. He is an experienced professional with core skills and competencies in Renewable Energy from waste, Quality Systems Management, cement processes, Process Engineering, Pre- and Co- processing of Operations, and Operations Management. Daniel has over 27 years of extensive experience working in various capacities in cement manufacturing as Process & Quality Manager, Operations Manager and Optimization Manager within and outside Nigeria for Holcim, the global leader in sustainable and innovative building materials and solutions. Daniel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lagos and an MBA from the Business School of Netherlands. He is a Leadership Development program Alumni of the Wharton Business School, USA, Circular Economy and Sustainability Strategies from Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He has attended various technical, management and leadership development programs in various countries.
